Peter McCool

Dr. Peter McCool is the founding partner of JusticeRx. He is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and a licensed attorney practicing in Illinois, DC, and Maryland.

Dr. McCool received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin and completed his emergency medicine residency in Chicago at Resurrection Medical Center. From there, he went on to become a faculty member of the emergency medicine residency program at the University of Wisconsin and an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. McCool has held teaching positions at various institutions, including the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago emergency medicine residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Advocating for Injured Patients

Seeing the need for true patient advocates, Dr. McCool enrolled in law school in 2016 at Loyola University Chicago while continuing to work full-time as an emergency physician. It became his mission to protect patients from the broken system in which medicine is practiced in this country.

After completing law school, Dr. McCool passed the Illinois Bar exam and took a job with a renowned litigation firm in Washington, DC. There he trained alongside elite trial attorneys that handle large and complex cases. While with the firm, he focused almost exclusively on litigating medical malpractice cases, learning the intricacies and pitfalls that come with the territory. This experience has fully equipped Dr. McCool to handle the most complex of medical malpractice and catastrophic injury cases that come his way.

Inside Knowledge of the Medical Field

Dr. McCool’s experience as an “insider” in the world of medicine gives JusticeRx an advantage when handling large and complex claims — and allows the firm to utilize litigation strategies that go beyond the routine medical malpractice lawsuit. That’s because Dr. McCool knows from personal experience how doctors, nurses, and hospitals work. He knows the typical areas of vulnerability and how providers and hospitals may try to distort the facts and confuse the jury.

Dr. McCool still practices emergency medicine in Wisconsin, continuing to utilize his medical skills to help save patients in need. Being an emergency specialist, Dr. McCool interacts with every specialty in medicine on a frequent basis. This allows him to more readily spot situations where a patient has received sub-standard care.
